Business Tax Prep for Entrepreneurs

Business tax prep at Gutsy Money is built to keep more of what your business earns, with every deduction and credit you qualify for claimed on your return.

We’re business tax preparers first, so we look at your return the way a business owner would: what you earned, what it cost to earn it, how you paid yourself and where the tax savings are. The goal is an optimized return you understand, and a clearer picture of what to do differently next year.

Getting a quote

Your quote starts with a short questionnaire.

It takes 5 to 10 minutes, and we don’t ask for any sensitive information. There’s no obligation, and you’ll usually have your proposal within 3 business days.

Why owners choose Gutsy Money for business tax prep

Plenty of preparers can file a return. When business owners tell us what they wish their last preparer had done differently, they talk about unanswered emails and returns nobody ever explained.

We respond

Getting your preparer to call you back shouldn’t be the hardest part of tax season. When you message us, you hear back from someone who knows your file, and when we need something from you, we say exactly what it is.

You’ll understand your return

We believe business owners should know what’s on their tax return and why it’s there. Your preparer explains the numbers that matter and the reasoning behind every recommendation, and no question is too basic to ask.

Business taxes are our specialty

We read your return the way a business owner would, starting with how your business earns money and how you pay yourself. That perspective is where a lot of tax savings get found, or missed.

What the wrong business tax preparer costs you

Usually, the cost is more money in taxes. A preparer who doesn’t work with businesses can miss deductions you qualify for or report an S-Corp owner’s pay in a way that raises the bill.

Other costs are harder to see. When no one explains the why behind your write-offs, your profit and your tax balance, last year’s return can’t help you make better decisions this year. We walk you through those numbers so you can use them to make informed choices that lower your next tax bill.

Our job is to prepare a return that keeps your tax bill as low as the law allows for your situation.

Who this is for: women business owners at every stage, from a first-year sole proprietor to an established S-Corp, C-Corp or partnership.

Signs it’s time for a new business tax preparer

  • Your revenue has grown, but your preparer’s process hasn’t changed.
  • You elected S-Corp status and aren’t sure your returns reflect it.
  • You can’t reach your preparer when you have a question.
  • You’ve been doing your own taxes and suspect you’re missing deductions.
  • You added a business partner or started doing business in another state.
  • No one has ever walked you through your own return.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know how blown away I am already by your team. I have had more communication and attention to detail in the past month than I have had my whole other time with any of my other accountants. I’m so glad I found you!

Katie Martin, Thrive Systems

Thank you again to you and your team for all of the support during tax season. I wound up saving $1000s in claiming business expenses that I wouldn’t have known to claim otherwise. And Karen [tax preparer] was responsive and thoughtful and helpful in every way.

Marissa Mika, Marissa Mika Editorial

“Thanks, Karen! I have you saved in my phone as ‘Karen Tax Queen.’”

Business and personal tax preparation, handled together

Your business return and your personal return are connected. Your K-1 and the wages you pay yourself appear on both, and the estimated payments you made during the year are credited on your personal return. When the same preparer handles both, the numbers line up, and you have a single place to send documents and questions.

How business tax prep works at Gutsy Money

  1. Request a quote

Fill out our Tax Preparation Questionnaire about your business and personal tax factors. Requesting a quote doesn’t commit you to anything.

  2. Get your proposal

Most proposals go out within 3 business days. It will list the returns we’ll prepare, your investment, and our document deadlines.

  3. Upload your documents

Once you sign, we’ll explore your entire tax environment in order to guide you on what documents and information to upload in our secure client portal.

  4. We prepare your returns

Your preparer works through your documents and reaches out if it looks like write-offs are missing or a tax factor can be handled more advantageously.

  5. You review

Look over your completed returns and ask about anything that isn’t crystal clear. Nothing is filed until you’ve reviewed it.

  6. We file

We file your returns with the IRS and your state.

Need help with your books before tax season?

You don’t need to be a Gutsy Money bookkeeping client to work with our tax team. You can keep your own books or work with another bookkeeper. If your books have fallen behind, our bookkeeping team can catch them up. Still working without an accounting system? We can set one up for you, so your return is based on numbers you trust.

Pair your business tax prep with a plan for next year

A tax return reports a year that’s already over. Lowering next year’s bill means making decisions while the year is still open, such as how your business is structured and how you pay yourself. Gutsy Money’s Tax Assessment + Strategy Review is our tax planning engagement, and many business owners pair it with Tax Preparation Services so their next return reflects the plan.

Already filed but not confident your return was optimized or accurate? Get a second opinion.

A Tax Return Review checks a return that’s already been filed for accuracy, compliance and missed deductions or credits. You get a written report and a call to walk through what we found.

What is business tax prep?

Business tax prep is the preparation and filing of the income tax returns a business owes each year, such as Schedule C for a sole proprietor or single owner LLC, Form 1120-S for an S-Corp, Form 1065 for a partnership, or Form 1120 for a C-Corp, plus the state returns that go with them. A business tax preparer turns your financial records into returns that report your income correctly and claim the deductions and credits you qualify for.

What does business tax preparation include at Gutsy Money?

Business tax preparation at Gutsy Money can include your federal and state business income tax returns for your entity type, and your federal and state personal income tax returns for the same tax year. The exact returns are listed in your proposal. Tax planning, amended returns, audit representation, IRS notice resolution and bookkeeping aren’t part of Tax Preparation Services, and estimated tax calculations are included when requested.

Who prepares my business tax return at Gutsy Money?

Gutsy Money’s experienced business tax preparers will handle your return. Both are Enrolled Agents (EAs), a credential issued by the IRS, and between them they have 33 years of tax experience.

Can Gutsy Money prepare my personal tax return along with my business tax return?

Yes. Tax Preparation Services can include your federal and state personal income tax returns, so your K-1 and owner wages are reported consistently on both. This isn’t required but it is recommended.

When should a business owner get professional business tax help?

Most business owners benefit from professional business tax help once their return involves more than simple income and expenses and definitely when a separate business return is required, such as after electing S-corp, adding a partner, hiring employees or doing business in another state. It’s also worth it when preparing your own return is taking time away from running the business. If you paid more than you thought you should (or wanted to) last year, this is also a key indicator it’s time to bring in the professionals! Gutsy Money prepares returns for business owners at each of these stages.

How much does business tax preparation cost?

Business tax preparation at Gutsy Money starts at $665 for an owner’s personal return with Schedule C and $995 for S-Corp, C-Corp and multi-member LLC returns. Both include the state return when one is required. You can see all of our starting prices above. Your final price is quoted after you complete our Tax Preparation Questionnaire. It depends on factors like your entity type, the states you operate in and the number of owners, along with your personal tax situation, such as rental or royalty income, investments and major life events during the year. If we find additional tax events that need more forms or work, additional fees may apply. But we’ll never charge you for conversations or questions like some providers.

When are business tax returns due?

For businesses on a calendar year, partnership/multi-member LLC returns (Form 1065) and S-Corp returns (Form 1120-S) are due March 15, and C-Corp returns (Form 1120) and individual returns, including Schedule C, are due April 15. Extensions move those to September 15 and October 15. Gutsy Money’s document deadlines come several weeks before each IRS deadline, and if your documents arrive after our deadline, your return will be extended.

Do I need to use Gutsy Money for bookkeeping to get my business taxes prepared?

No. You can keep your own books or work with any bookkeeper, as long as your records are current when tax season starts. If they’ve fallen behind, our Past Books Cleanup & Catch-Up service can bring them current, and if you don’t have an accounting system yet, Accounting System Setup can build one.

Does business tax preparation include tax planning?

No. Business tax preparation reports the year that already happened. Tax planning is a separate service at Gutsy Money called the Tax Assessment + Strategy Review, which looks at your entity structure, owner compensation, deductions, timing and more strategic tax levers before the year ends. Many business owners use both.

Does business tax preparation include amended returns or IRS notices?

No. Amended returns, IRS notice resolution and audit representation aren’t included in Gutsy Money’s Tax Preparation Services, and each requires a separate engagement. If you’ve received a notice or think a past return needs to be corrected, book a tax consult and tell us what’s going on.

Does Gutsy Money offer business tax prep for business owners outside Colorado?

Yes. Gutsy Money is headquartered in Denver and prepares business and personal tax returns for business owners nationwide. If your business operates in more than one state, we prepare each state return your business needs, and the number of states is part of your quote.

Can I switch to Gutsy Money from another tax preparer?

Yes, and you don’t need your previous preparer’s permission. Start with our Tax Preparation Questionnaire. We’ll use your answers to provide a custom tax proposal. After you accept your proposal, we’ll collect past business and personal returns with your other documents so we can carry forward items like depreciation and prior-year losses. Business owners often switch after a tax season of unanswered questions or ignored emails.
