At Gutsy Money, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Bookkeeper who believes bookkeeping is about more than categorizing transactions and sending financial reports. Great bookkeeping is a tool to build confidence.
Our clients trust us with one of the most important parts of their businesses. They rely on us for accurate financial records, thoughtful guidance, responsive communication, and a bookkeeping partner who genuinely cares about their success. This is a remote, part-time independent contractor role for a skilled professional.
If that sounds like the kind of work you enjoy, we want to hear from you.
We’re looking for a senior-level, full-charge bookkeeper who can confidently manage the complete bookkeeping cycle for small businesses—from accounting system setup and cleanup through accurate, ongoing monthly bookkeeping.
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Take ownership of your work and client relationships.
- Manage your time and commitments without frequent oversight.
- Communicate proactively with clients and teammates.
- Enjoy solving problems and doing the research needed to get things right.
- Learn new technology quickly and use it effectively.
- Appreciate clear systems and consistently follow established processes.
- Pay extraordinary attention to detail.
- Find satisfaction in helping business owners better understand their finances.
- Take pride in delivering work that is accurate, organized, and dependable.
Technical bookkeeping expertise is essential, but it is not enough on its own. Our Senior Bookkeepers must also be dependable communicators, thoughtful educators, capable technology users, and trusted representatives of Gutsy Money.
Extra Credit:
Not a requirement but you get extra credit if you have experience mentoring, teaching, and reviewing the work of junior bookkeepers. If you would enjoy participating in Gutsy’s mission to help women develop lucrative, flexible bookkeeping careers by providing mentorship and oversight to up-and-coming bookkeepers, definitely let us know!
The Kind of Professional We Admire
We admire professionals who care deeply about doing things the right way.
The kind of person who notices when a client’s name is misspelled before hitting send.
Who would rather ask one thoughtful question than make an unsupported assumption in a client’s books.
Who explains financial concepts in normal language, without judgment or jargon, because they care about leaving clients more informed and confident than they found them.
Who keeps their commitments because they know trust is built in the small moments.
Who gets genuine satisfaction from helping a business owner breathe a little easier because their finances are finally in good hands.
Depending on client needs and the engagement, responsibilities may include:
- Accounting system setup and QuickBooks Online configuration
- Chart of Accounts creation and cleanup
- Software integrations and troubleshooting
- Cleanup and catch-up past books
- Monthly bookkeeping and month-end close
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Bank, credit card, loan, and liability reconciliations
- Payroll setup, processing and reconciliation
- Sales tax setup and support
- General ledger maintenance and journal entries
- Financial statement preparation
- Client kickoff and recurring bookkeeping meetings
- Coordination with clients’ external CPAs or other financial professionals
- Peer review of bookkeeping work
You should be able to independently manage the bookkeeping needs of a small business from start to finish while recognizing and communicating when client input, expanded scope, or additional guidance is needed.
Client Relationships Matter Here
We’re a boutique firm that works primarily with women business owners who want more than compliance.
Our clients want a better understanding of their financial data and options in order to scale their businesses and grow their wealth with confidence.
Our Senior Bookkeepers serve as the primary bookkeeping contact during service delivery. That means building relationships, leading client conversations, answering questions, following up when information is needed, and explaining financial information in a way that feels useful and accessible.
Someone who wants to work quietly in the background, input data, and send reports with minimal client interaction will not thrive in this role.
We are looking for someone who values the human side of bookkeeping and wants clients to feel heard, respected, supported, and better equipped to make informed business decisions.
Technology is Key to the Role
Strong technology skills are required.
You must be highly proficient in QuickBooks Online and Google Workspace and comfortable learning, troubleshooting, and working across multiple systems. Our team regularly uses Financial Cents, Slack, Granola, Gusto, and other client-specific platforms.
You do not need prior experience with every platform a client may use, but you do need the ability and willingness to learn new software quickly.
You must also be prepared to learn how Gutsy Money specifically uses Financial Cents to keep project information, tasks, and deadlines accurate and current.
